being only 2 and a half days into the new year, can i really say a 'new years' post is late? if so...oh well =)
i've seen and read everyone write about why they're thankful that 2009 is over and what they're looking forward to in 2010.
and i have to say...did everyone have a crappy year or something? it seems to me that this year, in particular, i noticed friends and colleagues say things like "this year sucked, i'm looking forward to a new year" or "i'm so happy to have a new start and put 2009 behind me".
i mean, there are plenty of parts and things about 2009 that i'm very happy to put behind me and move on from, but when i look back on the entire 12 month period, start to end, i don't feel a sense of urgency to "forget it". and honestly, i don't hold any more expectations or anticipation for 2010 than i have for ANY new year.
so, in following the trends of others i follow (that's a funny sentence.) here's my breakdown of 2009, looking only to the positives!
JANUARY-
i went on the high school retreat (my first one in a WHILE) and it was amazing.
jones barnabe became a permanent member of our family, one who despite his intense challenges, is my four legged friend i can't wait to leave work and come home to cuddle =)
FEBRUARY-
i was given more management responsibilities at work, and enjoying them. it even meant getting to go to 2 higher level director trainings. this all meant a huge step forward in career growth.
MARCH-
met "cancer face" at the parking lot in walmart. he asked elli and me for money for the medicine for his face. (i don't remember march, really. but i remember this). and i remember having the best laugh EVER. laughter is positive. man having cancer on his face = not positive.
APRIL-
i turned 22! woo. haha. doesn't count.
i put an offer in on a house for the first time! helloooo growing up.
MAY-
i went to PCH for a work event and at that point started feeling the "career switch itch" it was just a matter of letting that grow a little. look where we are now!
JUNE-
jones graduated puppy training!! after 8 long weeks of doubt, he did it. and i couldn't have been prouder =)
JULY-
i saw the grand canyon for the first time! it was exciting. and miraculous that we didn't die on the way home haha
AUGUST-
i had my 2nd heart surgery. this technically counts as both good and bad. but, since it improved quality of living for a time, i definitely count it as a positive. PLUS. if you remember the hoops and trials in trying to make it all happen, the fact that it finally did was nice.
SEPTEMBER-
i started my masters program! AND was hired on at banner good sam staff.
OCTOBER-
moved. started work. sister got married. (october was busy!)
NOVEMBER-
3 hours into my shift i was escorted to the ER for a major heart episode. i say this is good, because it proved how lucky i have been all along this heart journey. i happened to be at work, sitting between my friends that know about my heart and could tell something was wrong. AND since i was on the clock they got me into a room and on a monitor within 5 minutes. positive. (and super lucky)
DECEMBER-
I GOT INTO NURSING SCHOOL!! (and had my 3rd, and unfortunately not final, heart surgery. and while in there, i made medical history, even if only to my doctor and a few of his cardio buds!)
********
See, i don't think 2009 was all that horrible. i think i had a lot to be thankful for, and a lot that i am happy happened. i know there was a lot of not-so-fun stuff that happened too, but the saying goes you gotta take the good with the bad, the happy with the sad. so i will.
here's to all new adventures in 2010. even if it's taken me a few days to quit working long enough to think about it :)
